August 8th Farm Hour

On this evenings Farm Hour we will hear from Cliff Oakley,  lifetime resident of Grand Gorge who graciously spoke with me last week about his time as a milk inspector for prospect creamery and shared a couple of tractor accident stories which we will hear later in the hour.    In the second half of the hour, Thomas Björkman
Associate Professor of Vegetable Crop Physiology, Department of Horticulture, Cornell University will be Calling in to tell us all about his efforts to Develop an Eastern Broccoli Industry.  

NEWS :                                                                                                                                                    1.    Union of Concerned Scientists (UCS) released the report “Market Forces: Creating Jobs through Public Investment in Local and Regional Food Systems” by UCS agricultural economist Jeffrey O’Hara.                                                                                                                    2.   Minnesota’s Star Tribune has reported that the Minnesota Court of Appeals recently
ruled that a large organic farm surrounded by chemical-laden
conventional farms can seek damages for lost crops, as well as lost
profits, caused by the illegal trespassing of pesticides and
herbicides on its property.
